"Reflecting on My Experience: Singing in a Talent Show Over 20 Years Ago"

Premium VHS converted to digital content from my eight grade talent show. A young girl with big dreams of becoming a professional country music singer. While I put down my guitar and decided to go a different direction with my music, I still remember this young girl. I would sing for hours after school each day in my room surrounded by Shania Twain and horse posters and dreams of living in Nashville, TN.

Now, 20 years later, I am reflecting on this show. I remember being a little nervous, but mostly excited to perform. I had few opportunities to perform solo as where I grew up in a small town in Maine, there were not that many singing opportunities for a young girl. I sought them out as much as I could though. So this talent show performance was big for me. Looking back on it, I am a little blown away with my vocals. Room for improvement--absolutely! For eight grade though, not too shabby! My oh my though, I had fun!

But watching this now, my one area of opportunity for improvement--I needed some stage presence coaching.

The morale of the post? It's to share with you all the journey. Here I am over 20 years later singing, and teaching voice. Yes, I did take a break from music for about eight years, but I found my way back (more on this little siesta from music in another post). So if you want to SING, then sing! If you want to perform, then perform! Go on stage even if you are a little scared. It takes practice to build the skill of singing and the skill of performing. Every time you get on stage, then you learn something you didn't know before. And find joy in the process.
